These guys have nothing but positive news coming in the next 12 months and has the ability to at least double in the next half year, if not sooner. So what are the positives/catalysts for Score Media: - Expansion with the help/investment of Penn Gaming to expand sportsbook in the US. Keep in mind, Penn is the same company that invested in Barstool. The Score is already approved in New Jersey, Indiana and Colorado, with Iowa right around the corner, and Michigan up next. - Sports betting in Canada is a 14 Billion dollar market. Single wagering is currently illegal, however, there is unity across the aisle between all political parties to amend the criminal code and make single wagering legal. There are currently two bills in play. C-13 and C-218. C-13 second reading is currently delayed, while C-218 is scheduled for the House of Commons on February 24th. Like most countries, they have currently spent a ton of money propping up their respective economies due to COVID-19. I'm in the u.s. but have been dipping into Australian stocks using foreign ordinaries on the u.s. side because there seems to be more value overseas. They also have market share in other states that have legalized gambling (5 others right now). They have positive net gaming revenue, which doesn't sound significant, but with heavy promotions going on right now things are pretty tight for the operators. For example there's a Canadian based online sports book here in the u.s. (score media) that delivered negative net gaming revenue for the year in similar markets as points bet and is still commanding a ~1.3b usd valuation (although they have some potential upside in Canadian single game sports betting being legalized). All that said: here's a few big points why the stock is going higher. Right now all these gaming stocks in the u.s. are blowing up as people finally start to realize that there's going to be huge opportunity here as all these states bring gaming online. Points bet owns their own code and has a unique feature which differentiates itself from other books. I think this has gotten the attention of casino operators and how some australian company no one here has heard of got a skin in the single skin Michigan market. They have a deal with nbc which will almost guarantee their adoption in other u.s. states as the network will promote their book to a national audience. They will bring an online casino to Michigan later this year to compliment the sports book. It's already in new jersey and I imagine will come to other states soon. If this thing was trading in the u.s. market at a more significant clip than 10,000 shares a day I think the valuation would be much more significant. Tldr: points bet has big potential in the u.s. market that is understated. 🚀🚀 Edit words and: been to Melbourne and Sydney a couple times and lost money betting on the Sidney giants. A hardcore fan told me its a misconception that was created by the fact Dalton's run underperformed in America but not only did it make cash world wide but they actually made around equal gross profits to Roger Moore's last 3 007 movies before he stepped down. That Dalton's movies was certainly popular in the UK during their original run. I will also point out talking with non-English folks such as people from El Salvador, France, UAE, Japan, and elsewhere across the world online, they seem to only associate Bond with Brosnan and Craig and are ignorant of earlier iterations (excepting obviously older people who remembered when Connery and others were front page news in local non-English newspapers and magazines of their countries). So i am very curious if Brosnan is not as popular in Britain as he is elsewhere throughout the world where people still associate Bond with his image including those who don't know his name is Pierce Brosnan and young people who grew up with Craig? I will also add I notice Pierce Brosnan even in the UK is so ubiquitous among video gamers too! What exactly made Brosnan so ubiquitous with Bond outside the UK esp North America? In addition what exactly makes Brosnan so associated with video games and so known among hardcore gamers who don't watch movies and TV? A look back at a crazy year. Quitting, relapses and pregnancy.
Long post but a few takeaways at the end. Hey all I used to post a lot in the spring of 2020 but stopped in the summer because I started to relapse then quit again and was too tired to write about it and because once I found out I was pregnant that really became my focus. I thought I'd do an update post. I have always been a casino and bingo gambler. I wanted to quit in 2020 and had been trying. I went on a 5 day work trip at the beginning of March and realized how bad my issue was as it was a big deal to me I could not gamble for 5 days. I tried to use that as a stepping stone but I did gamble a bit when I got back. Then just a few weeks later covid closed everything and I used that as my true quitting beginning. Things were great for 4 or 5 months. I will always look back at March, April, and May of 2020 fondly. I was sad to give up certain things and events due to covid but I loved not gambling and focusing sooo much on my well being (the extra time as work from home and no social plans). I also used the pause on student loan payments and interesr to get ahead budget wise and take some time to not be triggered by financial stress. In the summer I was laid off. Technically I'd been laid off since March from my part time job that I took to help pay debt but that was okay. Getting laid off from my full time job was a first for me. I went on CERB (Canadian covid benefit) and tried to enjoy my summer off, which I found out part way through was my first trimester, with home projects and outdoor friend visits. In the summer I had my first relapse. It was unexpected. I had self excluded from the casino and didn't follow updates of when it reopenned but I was driving and stopped at a "charitable gaming place" which is where bingo happens- it has slot machines in the back that they call "spinning reel games". I went back a few times to chase my losses, made it worse, then stopped. I had a mini version of life with gambling- the loss, the stress, and I didn't like it. I stopped again because of that and also because in the fall my area finally started to get a few covid cases again. (We have had very little) In the fall and winter I was somewhat quit. I also was able to work both a full time job and part time side hustle for awhile as I felt so great in second trimester and that helped. But I was still doing things like getting occasional scratch tickets or buying 50/50 tickets for local charities I support more than I should. I was aware and trying to watch that and not to do too much but I still knew I wasn't actively sober from it. Last week I had a big relapse. I gambled online which has never been my thing. I went up then lost it. Tale as old at time. Again, had to self exclude on the Take A Break page. I think this happened from the stress of knowing baby and mat leave are coming. Despite being happy and healthy overall, knowing I won't have any control of my income for 8-9 months when I'm off (not taking a full year as sharing with husband) gets to me. Anyway, this is super long but here are my takeaways: 1)any time I spent sober from gambling did help me to rebuild routines and remember who I truly am- my personality and goals and priorities. This made it easier to get out when I did relapse after. 2) I will always be triggered by finances. The better I am doing financially (less stressed) the less likely I am to gamble. Being aware of my finances and budget is the only way for me to be okay. Having a second income/ side hustle really does help me to not gamble as it makes me feel in control. 3) I can never online gamble ever again. I never let it in my house before and I definitely never can again now that I'll be a tired mom at home soon. 4) prioritizing my self care and mental health sounds cheesy but is worth it
I wanted to share with the group some due diligence and speculation I have done around Gamehost (TSX: GH). I want to start by saying that this is not a situation where you urgently need to buy this right now and ride up a wave, there will be no rocket ships on this post and I strongly encourage you to perform your own due diligence and see if you want to buy this stock. This is an extremely low volume stock and if you rush to buy it, the price will go up far past the supply of sellers. I do not intend to pump this but only to get critique. Gamehost is an owner and operator of 3 casinos located in Alberta, 2 hotels in Grande Prairie and a retail store rented to a liquor store near one of the casinos. The 3 casinos are: Boomtown Casino in Fort McMurray, The Great Northern Casino in Grande Prairie and the Deerfoot Inn and Casino in Calgary which they own 91% of currently. As you probably guessed by these locations, the casinos are cyclical and make a lot of money when oil prices are up and go through downturns when prices are low and projects stop. All 3 casinos are not destination type casinos like you would find in Las Vegas where people come from all around to visit, but are very reliant on their local communities. The Boomtown Casino is the only casino in Fort McMurray and the Great Northern Casino is the only proper casino in Grande Prairie with a much smaller limited one in town. The Deerfoot Inn and Casino is 1 of 7 (yes, 7!) casinos in the Calgary area. It primarily focuses on the Southeastern portion of the city and the surrounding suburbs and still serves a market of about 200,000 people in just that area. All 3 casinos are also very focused on live events and have become gathering points for live events and nights out for their communities. Although all 3 casinos have been affected by oil downturns all 3 communities they serve have much higher median income than the country as a whole. The casinos have remained profitable throughout the entirety of the oil downturn and despite a dividend cut in 2016 they have still paid a consistently strong dividend until the COVID-19 pandemic (more on this later). Grande Prairie’s economy is more focused on natural gas extraction which has been consistently profitable. Calgary as a major city does have a diversified economy as well which leaves just Fort McMurray to be the lone straggler in dealing with oil prices. No new casinos have been built in Alberta since 2006, which has left people still coming to the doors of the casinos regardless of the economy. All three cities have seen consistent population growth greater than 10% from 2016 according to Statistics Canada’s estimates which is far greater than the national average. People are still coming to these cities and are still making a fairly high wage compared to the average Canadian. The second thing that has likely come to your mind is why casinos when they have been shut down during the pandemic? As the vaccine is currently being implemented the orders will not last forever. When the casinos have been opened even with reduced services, they have remained profitable and the management has responded by using the pandemic as an opportunity. They have been consistently buying back thousands of shares every day and cancelling them. If you look at their SEDAR profile you can see that they have not missed a single day to cancel at least 2,000 shares per day. Since the company had 24.5 million shares issued, they have bought back about 1-2% of the float so far which has made the stock even harder to buy on the open markets due to the lack of volume. They have also been approved to expand the operations of the Deerfoot Inn and Casino which should be completed by the summer. The insiders have followed by accumulating many shares in their personal accounts over this period of weakness. In the third quarter of 2020 the company posted EPS of 12 cents per share down from 16 cents a year ago. Revenue was down to $4.9 million from $6.7 million. This is with severe restrictions and limitations on the amount of people that can come in the casino and what they can do. All live events were cancelled, table games were restricted and yet the company was still making enough money to buy back significant shares and improve their existing assets. The management has essentially channelled the dividend into making the number of shares decrease in a time of strong price weakness. There is interest in this space since the largest casino operator in the country Great Canadian Gaming was acquired recently for almost double what they were trading for in the spring. Private equity firms have been looking into casinos as a post-recovery play. Unlike companies in airlines or movie theatres, these do not have significant issues staying profitable during intense downturns, they only become less profitable with a sudden surge afterwards. I am speculatively buying this stock on the idea that as COVID-19 restrictions are gradually lifted there will be an awkward window where people will be back almost to normal within Canada and will have a strong urge to go out and do activities that they have been restricted from doing for months. At the same time they will be unable to travel internationally due to different countries having different vaccination schedules, planes still operating at reduced capacity with many airlines being in trouble and governments being reluctant to remove limitations abroad. This will significantly bring business to casinos and other live event focused businesses within Canada. I anticipate that in the 12 months past restrictions being lifted that the business will see a significant bump in EPS. They will reinstate the dividend and the share price will grow significantly. My personal price target is $12 per share but I could see it being anywhere from $10-$15 per share. This is without oil prices budging at all. In the long-term the price will be cyclical based on oil prices unless they start diversifying geographically. It is extremely difficult to get a licence to open a casino, which leaves the company with the only option of acquiring other casinos. This is a possibility down the road but something I will look more into once I see a significant bump in EPS due to increased demand. I do believe that in the current market with the price having barely recovered from the March lows, that the stock is a very good contrarian play in the 12-24 month range. Holding after that could potentially be risky depending on your own views on how the oil industry will play out and if the management has what it takes to diversify. Online gambling is an even longer term threat but since these casinos are focused on live events and have become a staple of the communities that they are in, this is not likely to be a threat for some significant time. That in the UK no single actor is ubiquitous with the role. It does make me wonder because even outside the core Bond community, I notice with Brits I met online and irl including not just casual fans but even people who don't remotely care about 007 or even just spy movies period................... Much of them are aware that not only has there been 007 actors before Brosnan but they seem to know the names of several generations of the character. Enugh that its quite common to hear from random Brits including non-fans state "Oh Connery is the best!" and "I miss the Roger Moore days", etc. Even Milleneals UK people I know who grew up with Brosnan at least are aware of Connery and Moore (including those who never seen the pre-90s movies and openly state either Brosnan or Craig is their fav if only because they are the only ones they are exposed to). As an American who was born in the 90s I will state before Craig's run Brosnan was not only the BOND for the American mainstream but he's the only one that most Americans even know about (even with the Craig era replacing him). At a discord room I visit, people often state while Brosnan's movies obviously were box office successes in Britain esp GoldenEye, he isn't as in-grained with Bond as he is in the rest of the world. That in the UK no single actor is ubiquitous with the role. It does make me wonder because even outside the core Bond community, I notice with Brits I met online and irl including not just casual fans but even people who don't remotely care about 007 or even just spy movies period................... Much of them are aware that not only has there been 007 actors before Brosnan but they seem to know the names of several generations of the character. Enugh that its quite common to hear from random Brits including non-fans state "Oh Connery is the best!" and "I miss the Roger Moore days", etc. Even Milleneals UK people I know who grew up with Brosnan at least are aware of Connery and Moore (including those who never seen the pre-90s movies and openly state either Brosnan or Craig is their fav if only because they are the only ones they are exposed to). As an American who was born in the 90s I will state before Craig's run Brosnan was not only the BOND for the American mainstream but he's the only one that most Americans even know about (even with the Craig era replacing him). So much that even people who don't know Pierce is the name of the 90s Bond actor like elder men who grew up in the Great Depression and preppy school girls I had as classmates who don't care about action flicks immediately picture Brosnan's image (ot at least his general basic features like dark hair and blue eyes) with Bond. Hell despite Craig being Bond for a whole generation, I met plenty of people born in the 2000s who associate Bond looking like Pierce Brosnan than Craig!
